Capetta: the history

Capetta company was born in 1953 as sole proprietorship when Francesco Capetta bought an old cellar in a lonely place of Santo Stefano Belbo town. The cellar, with four cement tanks of one hundred hectolitres and some wood barrels, was immediately equipped with a wood wine-press and a big press in order to carry out some rudimentary operations for the wine production. In 1959 there was the introduction of a small two spouts filler to start bottling the wine.

Since 1960 the cellar has been consider a real wine company because in its buildings people may see the whole “wine cycle”, from grapes pressing, to bottling and bottle packaging in wood boxes once and cartons now. In the same year Francesco Capetta financed the building of the first factory shed with the aim to produce sparkling wines. The first sparkling wine plant, completely manual, was introduced in 1962.

Between 1963 and 1964 the first manual sparkling wine bottling line was installed. It was formed by: a filler, a corking machine, a dryer, a labelling machine. Between the end of the ’60s and the beginning of the ’70s, Capetta bought new lands to build a small shed for wine industrial bottling. After the industrial real

estate enlargement, the first automated bottling line was inserted, together with a rinsing machine for empty bottles.

In the second part of the ’70s the wine pressing and making departments were transferred in a new, bigger shed. In those years the company lived a continuous development thanks to the strong demand that was not touched by the oil and energy crisis. It’s a time where everything seems possible and the Capetta family invests, without stopping, in technology and in building company real estate.

On the 5th of Novembre 1994 the Capetta company was flooded. Damages were huge: the sparkling wine bottling line had been stopped for twelve days, the wine one, just renewed, for a month. Only Francesco Capetta’s enthusiasm together with the commitment of his family, employees and many friends allowed the company to start working in time for Christmas festivity.

Today, after more than fifty years of history studded with enlargements and modernizations, Capetta company is proud to be an important reality in the survey of Piedmont oenology.
